Grade II* Listed Hospitality Refurbishment
Located in the historic port town of Dartmouth, the Royal Castle involved a comprehensive pub & hotel refurbishment enhancing the building and supporting continued commercial success.
Historically formed of two 17th century merchant houses, later joined and extended to form an inn, the existing building retained highly sensitive features including historic timber jettied structures as well as decorative plastered ceiling attributed to the 17th century merchant house phase – a feature also carefully repaired as part of the works.
We successfully coordinated the process of obtaining statutory consents from conception to completion for works to sensitively repair, upgrade and refresh the building internally and externally, alongside their key supporting role to the client and the project design team,
Detailed desktop analysis, followed by targeted investigations, enabled the design process to proceed whilst the building remained occupied, limiting the impact to trade areas during project process which included comprehensive Archaeological analysis and detailed engagement with local Conservation Officer and Historic England.
As a result, the Royal Castle embarks on its latest hospitality phase, befitting of its landmark character, supported by a high-quality finish for the benefit and enjoyment of the client and their patrons alike.
