A spectacular manor house originally built by Jasper Baron in 1790, replaced an older manor house to the north east of the site. Tregeare House has evolved within its estate setting for hundreds of years whilst it remained within the Baron family – phases of development included the ‘Carillion’ extension and stabling undertaken between 1790-1840, as well as the construction of the ‘Belfry’ range to the rear of the building between 1840-1880. Further ancillary structures were added around the building as the manor expanded to suit functional demand.
The building was subject to a fire in 1983, but fortunately manor key interior features were retained and plaster cornices and panelled shutters were noted to have been carefully replaced. The retention of these key historic features enabled us to further enhance the building to help maintain and further reveal its prominent character.
We were instructed by the building owner to assist with various scopes of works across the estate lands, including the construction of new garage and estate office building located within the setting of the listed manor house. We also assisted with sensitive alterations and repairs to the interior of the building.
This project demonstrates how we can assist building owners of large country estates with the management, alteration and repair of their listed buildings as well as the careful heritage-led design and positioning of new structures within their land. We ensure that necessary statutory approvals are successfully obtained and cater our design approach to suit the needs of the building’s occupants and owners.
