North Coast Asylum Art Gallery

Grade II Listed Gothic Chapel Conversion into Mixed Use Commercial and Residential

This project involved the adaptive reuse of a Grade II Listed Gothic Chapel, transforming it into a contemporary art gallery with an associated residential flat. Known as The Asylum’s Rehabilitation, the scheme reused and conserves elements of the former building.

The chapel’s historic fabric was restored, while carefully considered modern insertions allowed the space to function as a vibrant cultural venue. The project was supported by EU-funded RDPE investment, enabling the conservation of significant heritage asset and its sustainable reuse as a creative hub.

This project demonstrates how adaptive reuse of a historic building can support cultural, economic and community regeneration without comprising on the significance of the listed building.
